3.13.12 #1

Hashim is viewed near a photograph of a pastel drawing of a night-scape, a circular pastel. I 'm going to be using some of these in upcoming light paintings as a reference to darkness and night. These photos were taken around 1997 during an excursion made by our photography class for the blind being taught by Mark Andres. We took our tripods over to Madison Square Park and made some time exposures, nothing very memorable made on my part, I recall. A few years later I did make some pastel renderings of those images showing railings and gloomy paths. The long time exposure later let me see what my eyes could not. Those drawings are gone now, trashed, but their circular shadows remain.

2.21.12

Vicki posed for me holding my sculpture, a paper- mache medallion depicting blossoming leaves growing surreally from empty eyes. Surrounding the figure is a border of Centaurs- each holding up an individual eye. There is little detail- paper- mache is a crude and coarse material to model- unlike clay.  This is my first attempt at using the red laser pointer with a sitter.
